Cane Creek Trails Closed During Work Hours For Shoreline Stabilization Project

Progress on Cane Creek’s shoreline stabilization project has led to the need for more trail closures.

Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said that while in the midst of the project, they decided to do some additional work that would better the trails.

“And that is removing some trees that were taken down by storms,” Woods said. “And we need to get that cleaned up and get that area enhanced and safer for the public.”

Woods said that they will now have to close the south trails as the north trails. He said that the trails will be closed Monday through Friday until 5 p.m., with detours to go around the construction.

Woods said that the department asks for patience and cooperation when it comes to working around the barriers to construction areas.

“For their own safety,” Woods said. “We have heavy equipment coming in there, people are not looking for pedestrians and bicycles and strollers and those kinds of things to be in those areas when they’re there working. We want people to be safe, we want them to enjoy the use of the trails and the park and we are trying to find ways to get the trails open to be used part of the time while we’re continuing to work part of the time.”
