Cane Creek Rec Center Karate Classes Begin With Additional Time Slot

Cane Creek Recreation Center has introduced an additional karate class for children.

Recreation Programmer Sally Herren said two classes are now available every Monday and Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.

“The kids karate has been super popular that we had some parents ask to add extra days so that their kids could take more days of karate sessions so we added Mondays,” Herren said.

The $25 price gives you four weeks of classes instructed by Nikki Desch. Children ages 6 through 12 can participate. Herren said sessions will run until the end of the month.

“Nikki teaches them simple and effective self-defense techniques that allow them to take advantage of their personal strengths, and she does a really great job with the kids,” Herren said.

If you’re new to karate, do not worry. Herren said classes are scaled in a way that new students learn the basics before moving to the next level.

“Then, the ones that are progressing to the next stage on if they go on to yellow belt, she will teach them separately what they will need to know to go forward,” Herren said.

Herren said the instructor will also host a $20 self-defense workshop this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to noon. All classes take place at the Cane Creek Recreation Center at 183 C C Camp Road in Cookeville.
