Cane Creek Elementary School Principal Emily Pierce announced her retirement Thursday.
The 30-year educator will step down immediately. Pierce has been principal at Cane Creek since 2012. Putnam County Director Of Schools Corby King called Pierce a respected educator and mentor to local students.
“She has served as a respected teacher, administrator, friend, and mentor to many students and educators in the Putnam County School System,” King said in a statement. “We wish her all the best as she begins this exciting new chapter of life.”
King said the position will be posted Tuesday and applicants will be screened beginning June 8. A committee of Cane Creek teachers and community members will consider two to three candidates to pass forward to the central office.
A new principal could be in place by mid June, King said.
Pierce has held positions as a teacher, assistant principal and principal in the Putnam County Schools.
