Byrdstown exploring grant opportunities to map water lines of the Chanute Pall-Mall Utility District.
It has been some six months since Byrdstown has taken over the utility disitrct. Mayor Sam Gibson said the town’s water department is still struggling to locate all lines connecting some 500 Fentress County customers.
“When we go out and we know there is a leak in a certain place or we know somebody is needing to hook up on a water and we don’t know where it is at and we just have to dig until we find it,” Gibson said. “It makes it a little rougher and harder to go out and do the job.”
Gibson said for example, the water department identified a major leak Wednesday in the Cedar Grove area. Gibson said finding the line took a mass effort with hours of digging.
Gibson said Byrdstown has applications out for several leak detection grants. Gibson said having a service map would save time as well as money.
