The water and sewer plants of Byrdstown need some $6 million in improvements.
Engineer Nathaniel Green said he recommends the town starts planning now since it will take about two years to start finalize designs.
“An estimate $3 million for each,” Green said. “That’s an overall project that includes plans, constructing, engineering, all the USDA stuff that we would have to do, the loan closings and any additional surveying we will need.”
Green said while most upgrades are not an absolute need, they will be in about four years. Green said USDA has indicated Byrdstown could get up to 40 percent of the project grant funded.
“If you said today, we want to apply for this, I am thinking it will be 2023-2024 before we are opening bids,” Green said. “Maybe longer than that just depends on other things.”
Mayor Sam Gibson said the project would be a large undertaking that will need more discussion in the future. Green said including in the price are sink hole repairs, headwork replacements and numerous electrical and pump station upgrades.
