Byrdstown Approves Chanute Pall Mall Water Deal

The Byrdstown Board of Aldermen has approved the town taking over the Chanute Pall Mall Utility District.

The town will gain about 500 customers and all of the district’s assets, including about $30,000. Mayor Sam Gibson said Byrdstown will lose about $165,000 up front with the district no longer buying water, but the acquisition will pay off in the long run.

The next step in the transition is planning a public hearing. Gibson said this will likely happen sometime in March. After that, both Pickett and Fentress County Executives must sign off on the deal to become official.
