The town of Monterey will introduce safety renovations to city hall and the police department by installing bullet resistant windows.
Monterey Mayor Bill Wiggins said the City Hall’s Water Clerk and City Recorder will receive bullet resistant glass upgrades for their windows. The project will cost $5,800 and will be installed by the end of the month.
“Currently, they are just sliding glass windows,” Wiggins said. “Frankly, with the Covid-19 pandemic, and things just happening out there in the world, I considered giving them a little more protection.”
Wiggins said the city also wants to upgrade the plexiglass window in the lobby of the police department. This will also be installed by the end of June. Each window will be a single pane of bullet resistant glass. Wiggins said both upgrades are needed for the protection of the city employees.
Both projects will be paid from the town’s general funds. Herren Glass of Cookeville will give an estimate for the window in the police department. They will install both panes of glass in both locations.
