Bon De Croft Fire Asking For Blanket Donations After Call

The Bon De Croft Volunteer Fire Department collecting blankets throughout the winter months.

Fire Chief Shannon Smith said the blankets will be distributed to the elderly and homeless who are in need throughout the Bon De Croft community. He said the department decided to take on this cause after responding to an emergency call.

“We went on this medical call one day to this elderly couple,” Smith said. “They didn’t had no blankets, hardly anything. Their stove wasn’t putting out enough heat. Me and a couple other ones on the fire department come up with a blank drive so we can help these people in our community.”

Smith said that was a week ago, and they have been collecting blankets ever since. To donate blankets reach out to the the Bon De Croft Fire Department.

Smith said the blanket drive has been a success so far. He said the department wants to continue to give out blankets all through the winter so it needs donations.

“It’s very important to get those blankets to us,” Smith said. “Drop them off at our fire department at 8023 Crossville Highway. I’m from that community, so I know almost all the people up there, so I know the people who need these.”

Smith said the department made sure the elderly couple warmed up before they left.

“We gave them blankets,” Smith said. “We split their wood and even carried it in for them and built them a fire. It’s a good thing for the community, so they know we are out there for them.”

“Our fire department cares about our community and without the community we wouldn’t be no department.”
