Healthcare company Boa Vida, the party interested in purchasing the Cumberland River Hospital, takes a regional approach when setting up a healthcare system.
Chief Strategy Officer Darrwin Perkins said over several years, the company tries to establish clinics in proximity to the hospital. Perkins said this creates a pipeline of patients to ensure the hospital stays in the green.
“We’re not landlocked in our approach of what we do,” Perkins said. “We get out to surrounding communities. What we want to do is really be a regional hub for communities around, so they can utilize services that we provide.”
Boa Vida operates five hospitals with one in Jellico, Tennessee. Perkins said one of the Mississippi facilities has grown from 3 to 4 rural clinics to 23 clinics with 45 providers in just over four years. Perkins said revenue has tripled for that location.
“We start off and do what we believe are the right things,” Perkins said. “We engage the community, so that is a big part of it. If the community is not on board, it is hard to keep a hospital there. I have met with the community, and I believe in that community piece.
Perkins said rebuilding the hospital would take several years, but the healthcare company has the infrastructure to lean on. Perkins said the company has the resources to recruit staff, conduct human resources, provide information technology support and expand medical practices.
Perkins said the company usually operates through long-term leases, but Celina presents a new opportunity to actually purchase the facility. Perkins said overall, the hospital is in pretty good shape.
