Blood Drive Being Held In Memory Of Putnam County Officer

Blood Assurance will hold a blood drive Saturday in memory of former Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Mike Wilson.

Wilson passed away in August following a battle with stage 4 Melanoma. He served the sheriff’s office for 22 years and left behind a wife and two sons.

The blood drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Putnam County Justice Center.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has invited the community to donate blood in Sergeant Wilson’s memory to help others who are struggling with cancer or other illnesses and traumas.

“Blood donations helps prolong the lives of those struggling with cancer and other ailments,” said Trudy Cody, an account manager with Blood Assurance. “We hope that the community will come out to honor Sergeant Wilson and to help local patients in need.”

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 18 years old (17 and 16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids – avoiding caffeine – and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.
