Baxter Sewer Project Off To Rocky Start

Baxter Mayor Danny Holmes said the town’s sewer rehabilitation project has gotten off to a rocky start due to inclement weather.

Holmes said the contractor is still working through the weather conditions and making incremental progress. Holmes said he does not blame the contractor for the slow start as they do not control the weather.

“We are wanting it done as soon as possible,” Holmes said. “And I understand the weather I mean look what’s coming in here tomorrow. Weather always has a part and play in anything that you are doing when you are working outside.”

Holmes said the contractor is still pipe-bursting and will have to do more camera work to find the remaining leaks. Holmes said as of now the project timeline has not been delayed.

“We are gonna have it done in the timeline,” Holmes said. “Our Public Works Director John Ramsey and our City Engineer Tom Bennett are working very closely with Portland. Mr. Bennett has worked with them on several projects and tells me that they are top-notch.”

Holmes said the contractor will soon be moving the pipe-bursting up First Avenue towards Love’s. Holmes said he is concerned about how that may affect the intersection.

“We talked about that and we are hoping that it doesn’t,” Holmes said. “As you know that is a nightmare out there especially when school is going on.”

Holmes said in the coming months residents who are taking their child to school or going to work might want to leave earlier than usual.
