Baxter opened four bids for its CDBG sewer project to inspect the entire city system via camera.
Mayor John Martin said John T. Hall Construction in Sparta came in with the lowest bid. Martin said the next step is having the city engineer evaluate the bid winner before awarding the contract at the next board of aldermen meeting.
“Anybody can bid on this project but if you do not have the credentials and you hire someone,” Martin said. “This is a pretty big project. There’s going to be a lot of cuts into roads and a lot of things that are going to happen as far as camera work.”
Martin said that if this low bid is able to be awarded there will be money leftover from the $628,00 CDBG grant.
“The reason for this is infiltration of water,” Martin said. “It’s really going to be a great project that we’re doing and we were very fortunate to get this grant, to do this.”
Martin said because of the project’s scope, there is not a definite timeline for how long the camera work will take. He said the bid prices that came in cover the entire project.
