Baxter Council Gets First Reading On Town Houses

The Baxter City Council took the next step in approving a townhouse development along Highway 56 at Buffalo Valley Road Thursday night.

The 70-unit development will be at the site of the old Shell Gas station.

Council members approved the first reading of an ordinance to change zoning on two land parcels to multi-family zoning. The gas station site changes from C-2 and an adjacent 7-acre residential plot goes from R-1 to the R-3 designation.

Baxter Mayor John White said the Planning Board examined the proposed development.

“The board approved it 100 percent,” White said. “They’re passing it on to our board for approval.”
