Baxter Approves $1.6M Bid For Portobello Water And Sewer Project

City of Baxter approved a bid for some $1.6 million for the Portobello America sewer extension work.

UCDD Deputy Director Tommy Lee said that the bid from Rogers Group will provide sewer upgrades along State Route 56 and Baxter Road. He said the upgrades will also make it possible for Portobello America to start its operations.

“The more growth that you have, the bigger burden it is on the wastewater treatment plant,” Lee said. “And these upgrades will reduce the burden on the wastewater treatment plant.”

Lee said this project was made possible through a $1 million grant from the economic development administration and $500,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission. He said that the project has already been designed, and that the next steps will be to order materials and begin construction work.

Lee said that the timeline will depend on how long it takes Rogers Group to obtain materials.
