Avery Trace And Algood Middle School Entrances Upgraded

Extra security now in place thanks to upgraded entrances at Avery Trace Middle School and Algood Middle School.

Putnam County Deputy Director of Schools Tim Martin said the projects include a secure vestibule screening access.

“Now when you come up to the school you have to push the buzzer and get buzzed in for outside,” Martin said. “What this will allow you to do is actually come into the school, but then there would be a secure part there, and you’ll be able to see a secretary.”

Martin said the vestibule window will allow for things such as doctor’s notes or books to be dropped off without granting entry to the school.

“You can hand that through the window, and then turn around and leave,” Martin said. “If you have a meeting or go in and see somebody, you will get in the secure vestibule.”

Martin said the project is a part of the system’s goal to retrofit entrances at older schools. Martin said most of the school district’s newer buildings have the same protections.

Martin said the lock-down aspect of the entrances still need to be installed. Martin said Algood’s will be functional by the end of the year while Avery trace will need to reroute its foot traffic before installation.
