August Early Voting Begins Friday Across UC

Early voting for the August election begins this Friday and Pickett County Administrator of Elections Tim Clark said it appeals to those who like flexibility.

Clark said those who are registered to vote can bring some sort of photo ID to participate in early voting. Clark said a handgun permit, a veterans ID card, a passport, or a Tennessee driver’s license would work even if it is expired.

“Usually when people, when there is early voting going on, there is very little line if any when there is early voting,” Clark said. “It definitely helps with the congestion on election day.”

The early voting location is at the community center in Byrdstown. Clark said more people are starting to use early voting for its flexible schedule and ease of access.

“I think it’s become more popular,” Clark said. “It’s just the convenience of it.”

Early voting continues through July 27. Hours are 8am-4pm Monday-Friday and 8am-12N Saturday. Clark said the election commission always prepares for a big turnout for early voting.

“We always prepare for a big turnout,” Clark said. “Unfortunately sometimes that’s not the case.”
