Three Dekalb County residents spoke Thursday night about interest in representing the sixth district on the Dekalb County Commission.
Danny McGinnis, Andy Pack, and Bruce Parsley each spoke during a public meeting about their interest in the position and their qualifications. County Commissioners expected to make a decision on the open seat during the board’s Monday night meeting. Dekalb County Executive Matt Adcock said filling the spot important for a lot of reasons.
“This has cut down our quorum, it’s cut down on our majority,” Adcock said. “So we obviously want the sixth district to be represented by both of the commissioners. So in our next meeting, we’ll have a nomination part on our agenda to have somebody come up and that’s willing to be nominated, and a commissioner would have to nominate someone from the public to go from the meeting of this month to September.”
The seat will be on the ballot later this year. Justin Adcock resigned from the position in January after being elected in August, 2022.
Adcock said people may not realize the difficulty called with one less commissioner, in terms of just getting work done.
“Having that vacancy is hard on us,” Adcock said. “So we would like to get that back filled and have somebody that’s willing to be a member of the team and push Dekalb County forward.”
Commissioners will consider the opening Monday at 6:30pm.
