Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day March At Tech

Tennessee Tech will host their annual march for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Omnicron Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will host a silent march Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Multicultural Affair Director Charria Champbell said this is an important event.

“We want to honor his legacy for service to all mankind in commemoration of the 25th MLK Day of Service,” Campbell said.

The memorandum for Dr. King at Tech goes on all week with education and community support.

Tech’s Commission of the Status of Blacks (CSB) Chairperson Holly Mills said this is a time to give back.

“We ask that the Tech community celebrate with us in doing something to help others by recognizing Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, as a ‘Day On’ and not a ‘Day Off,'” Mills said.

The CSB and Mills selected several local agencies to recommend for service projects including the Adult and Teen Challenge of the Upper Cumberland; the Cookeville Rescue Mission; Genesis House; Habitat for Humanity and its ReStore program; and Tech’s Child Development Lab and Food Pantry. Volunteering and beautification opportunities will be provided for students and faculty.

The CSB requested for anyone who wants to participate in a service project to use hashtag #TNTechMLK for a chance to win an iPad.
