Algood Working On Cleanup Efforts Following Thursday’s Flash Flood Conditions

City of Algood working on debris cleanup after Thursday night’s flash flood conditions left many areas in town underwater.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said for the most part, the water has receded and things have cleared up. He said they are not seeing major complications as of Friday morning.

“We’ve got one issue remaining at R. C. Buck where there’s some wash out in the road and we’re going to have to let the water go down and clear out before we can really dig into that,” Morrison said. “We’re just keeping that closed at this time.”

Morrison said as for property damage, they have had reports of water in basements, crawl spaces, and garages. He said there had been no major damages or total losses that they know of.

Morrison said as the next few days continue, they will do some work to clear out and stabilize areas that had been affected. He said they will go through to make sure the drain tile and grates are clear in case it does rain again.

“That way whatever is washed up on those doesn’t prevent them from working the way they need to,” Morrison said. “There are few things we’re trying to do just to make sure if it does start to rain again that the water doesn’t get trapped so we’re out trying to work on things this morning and do a little bit of cleanup.”

Morrison said there is still a little bit of debris on Main Street, Brookside, and other areas to clean. He said by Monday, he believes there will be a lot of brush pick for the city to complete.
