Algood Weighs Options To Replace Armour

Algood City Council is considering how it wants to handle the replacement of Algood Police Chief Dale Armour.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said the council will decide at the August meeting whether to appoint Interim Chief Tim Terry as the new chief or to begin a search. Morrison said that if they conduct a search they will use the Municipal Technical Advisory Service to find, review, and score applicants.

“Then we would do assessment centers and bring the chiefs in and give them some tasks to see how they would complete them and how they would respond to them and score them based on that with a panel of judges to look at them,” Morrison said. “And then from that we would narrow down to our top two candidates and go back to council with a recommendation.”

Morrison said that process would take them three to four months to go through candidates and find a new chief. Morrison said if the council chooses to appoint Terry he would bypass the tasks and assessments of the application process entirely.

Armour leaving the city to take a job in Nolensville. Morrison said he thinks the transition will go smoothly regardless of which option the council chooses.

“I think Chief Armour’s left us in a good position and I think Chief Terry will carry on and I think we’ll move through quite easy,” Morrison said.
“I think we’ll transition, see how things are going, and then as we work through the transition you might see changes after that.”

Armour set to become the police chief of Nolensville in Williamson County on August 19.
