Algood To Vote On Bids For Digital Entrance Sign

The city of Algood wants to better inform residents through a new digital sign at the intersection of Burton Branch Road and Main Street.

Algood City Administrator Keith Morrison said the city opened three bids this week, two of some $30,000 and one priced at some $33,000. He said the sign can promote special events like the city’s Independence Day celebration and Fall Festival. He said it will also be used to inform the public about upcoming meetings, emergencies, and water outages.

“We’re excited,” Morrison said. “We’ve been wanting to offer this for a while so that we can better communicate with the public and dress up the entrance to Algood a little bit more and advertise important information and be sure we’re getting that information out to the public.”

He said the $33,000 bid from Core Displays offers a more versatile sign with more options for customization and additional features. Morrison said the Algood City Council will vote on a selection at its Tuesday meeting.

“It’s just a high-traffic area,” Morrison said. “There’s a lot of traffic coming in and out of Algood, so I think that will be a very important location for us to be able to communicate with our residents and also people just coming through town.”

He said the sign will need electrical service run to it when installed, but he expects it to arrive in one piece and require little in terms of the setup process. Morrison said the sign will also be a valuable resource for attracting tourists as they pass through Algood city limits.

“I think it can welcome into town,” Morrison said. “It can advertise events that we’re having. Things that maybe will impact our businesses and draw more traffic downtown and continue to help us promote our businesses here.”

Morrison said the city has been working to add this for quite a while and has bid the project out more than once but has struggled to find a bid that aligned with the city’s needs and stayed within budget. He said he is excited to have three competitive bids all within the city’s price range.
