Algood To Hold Town Hall Meetings For Resident’s Traffic Concerns

Algood will conduct town hall meetings so residents can discuss their concerns about traffic in the city.

The original plan of appointing a committee during Tuesday night’s meeting was tabled. Councilman Luke Hill said this topic is better suited for an open discussion with the people most affected by traffic.

“We just all sit down, invite our community in here,” Hill said. “And just discuss, hear from our citizens as to what their concerns are, what they’re seeing.”

Hill said this was a good first step before going through the process of forming and appointing a traffic study committee. Hill said he would prefer a town hall be scheduled on a date separate from a city council meeting to give residents more time to speak.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said a date has not been set for Algood traffic town halls, but residents can look for advertisements.

“We’ll advertise those on Facebook, we’ll advertise them and you all will hear about them,” Morrison said. “We’ll put them online, we’ll put them out here at city hall and we’ll try to get them in the paper as well.”

Morrison said the city and Police Chief Dale Armour have done some preliminary work to gather traffic data.

“We’ve looked at speed humps, we’ve called other cities, Chief’s called other cities on several occasions,” Morrison said. “We’ve looked at traffic calming studies with actual engineering companies and we’ve had a proposal from them. So we’ll take all that information and we’ll sit down at the town hall and we’ll talk about it and we’ll come back to the council with some ideas of how we move forward.”

Dates have not been formally set for the Algood traffic town hall. The public is being asked to participate to voice their concerns and opinions.
