The City of Algood will resume disconnecting utility services to delinquent accounts this month.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said the city felt like it was time to get back to normal as other towns begin the same process.
“We’re just following other cities around us that are going to be doing the same thing,” Morrison said. “Cookeville is going to be starting back June 1. Of course, we have to resume disconnection, so as we’re nearing the end of this pandemic, we feel it’s safe to continue to resume normal business. We’ll monitor, and if we feel that needs to change, we’ll adjust as we need to.”
Morrison said customers would be given ample time to pay their bill before disconnection.
“We’ll put an advertisement in the newspaper,” Morrison said. “We’ll call let them know that they are on the disconnect list, and we’ll also send them a letter if we can’t get a hold of them to make sure they know what’s happening. We won’t start until the end of May.”
The City of Cookeville announced last week it would resume disconnections at the beginning of June.
Morrison estimates nonpayments have cost Algood around $3500 dollars.
