Algood Putting State Money To Use With Sewer Rehab Work

Algood will use new state ARP funds to continue its sewer rehabilitation project.

The city received just under $723,000 in grant money from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. City Administrator Keith Morrison said the money will be used to fix some of the city’s biggest issues.

“We knew the funding was coming and we had started on it a long time ago,” Morrison said. “We finished camera work and smoke testing a year ago, and cleaned all our sewer lines so when the money did come out we had a master plan of what lines were in the worst shape and where we could get the most effect on improving infiltration.”

Morrison said that the city will be targeting large lines that cannot be easily fixed. Smaller lines can be fixed by the city on their own.

“The bigger sections where we have large lines that have lots of work that needs to be done, that’s what we want to target with this money,” Morrison said. “that way we improve the Algood sewer system and make life better for everybody.”

The total cost of the improvements will be around 1.2 Million.

“It’s a big chunk of money to help out for something that we wouldn’t normally just have sitting and available,” Morrison said. “We still have to come up with depreciation but for what we are going to get out of it, it will be worth it in the long run.”
