Algood Planning Commission considering making changes to its R-2 and R-3 zoning classifications.
UCDD Planning Deputy Director Tommy Lee said the change would permit on appeal two-family dwellings, or duplexes in the R-2 zone. He said currently multi-family dwellings are only allowed in the R-3 zone.
“There are not as many R-3 parcels as there are R-2s,” Lee said. “So this would allow for duplexes to be established in more parcels than they’re currently allowed to be established now.”
Lee said while he cannot speak to the demand for such residences from consumers, there is growing demand from developers. He said the contractors and the builders are looking to put more two and three-family dwellings in Algood.
Lee said no decision was made about this change at the most recent planning commission meeting. He said he will present more information at its May meeting, and the commission will likely make a decision on whether to move forward or not with a recommendation to the council at its June meeting.
