The Algood Planning Commission will further study guidelines to limit the size of accessory structures.
Building Inspector Bob Lane said the commission wants to refine the restrictions as it relates to lot sizes.
“If they’re on a fairly small lot, and they are going out there to build a monstrosity of a building that overwhelms the entire neighborhood, that’s what we are looking at,” Lane said. “We’ve got that in a place or two where that has happened, and we’ve got some complaints.”
Lane said proximity to the home and property line setbacks will also be further explored. Lane said pole barns and large sheds for RVs have been the main issue. In some cases, Lane said the accessory buildings have exceeded the size of the primary home.
Lane said the goal is to protect the property values of Algood residents.
