Algood Planning Commission gave final approval Thursday night for a new Baskin Robbins, set to be built at 652 Main Street.
A Checker’s Restaurant had previously been planned for the site, but the developers chose not to follow through on that project. Staff Planner Tommy Lee said the 1,055-square foot facility will be drive-thru only with outdoor seating.
“This is an almost identical site plan to the previous use for that property, which was the Checkers Restaurant,” Lee said. “The only difference is that the building is a little bit larger, and there is, I believe, one more parking space.”
Development Representative Joe Nichols said they fit the ice cream shop inside the footprint designed for the Checkers facility. Nichols said the plan also improved drainage at the rear of the lot.
Nichols said the developer hopes to be open this fall.
