Algood City council passed the first reading of the new budget Tuesday night.
Mayor Kirk Dyer said he believes the budget will continue to benefit Algood.
” It is a very sound budget. A lot of thought went into it. And it covers and encompasses a lot of our newest purchases,” Dyer said. “Being the White Plains Plantation and the park area. It addresses our new fire hall. It addresses the new farmers market that is coming.”
The budget set aside money for other various capital projects, including sidewalk improvements, police cars, and street paving.
The property tax will remain the same in the new budget.
All members of the council voted in agreement to pass the reading.
“Each and every year we are able to stay within our budget and return monies to the general fund,” Dyer said. “So, I anticipate that to continue.”
Dyer said the members will review the budget for its next reading.
The budget will go through a second reading on June 12.
