Algood Parks and Recreation taking the next steps to upgrade its dilapidated tennis courts.
Director Roy Phipps said the city had put out requests for qualifications for engineer work on the courts. He said they received three RFQs that met the specs provided by the city including, what they were looking for in the project and how they want to move forward.
“So the next stage now that we have picked the firm is for them to come in and give us some ideas that are in line with our thinking and our plans and give us an idea for what that construction project will look like and obviously look at the cost,” Phipps said. “And then after that, we’ll discuss which route to take.”
Phipps said the project came about because there was both a need for upgrades and a demand from citizens. He said many have asked him to potentially include pickleball courts with the upgrades as the sport has risen in popularity.
Phipps said they are hoping to get the project underway as quickly as possible. He said as Algood begins its budget talks for the next fiscal year, he plans on including the tennis court project as part of those discussions.
