Algood Keeping Easter Event COVID Safe

Algood is playing it safe this Easter with a drive-thru event at the White Plains Historic Home.

From 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM kids can get Easter eggs from the Algood Fire Department. City Administrator Keith Morrison said this was the safest and most effective way to still let people celebrate.

“First come, first serve drive-thru event, we just ask everybody to try and stay safe and social distance,” Morrison said. “Encourage them to wear masks still and keep everybody safe. It’s just a chance for them to get out and get maybe a picture with the Easter Bunny and spread some Easter cheer with their family.”

Morrison said being able to have events like this shows the benefit of being a small community. He said having the fire department take part is vital to the well-being of a small city.

“The opportunity to meet those guys and know who they are,” Morrison said. “That way if you do have an event where they’re responding to your home, you know them a little bit differently, on a different level. I think it’s a different level of comfort being able to know those folks.”

Morrison said they were able to have the Easter event two years ago. He said we’re not out of the pandemic yet, but it creates a positive feeling in the community to see these types of events return.

“I think at this point we’re still going to have to do a few things to keep them safe, social distance and wear a mask,” Morrison said. “But just the opportunity to offer these events again, is getting some way back to a sense of normal and allowing us to give back to the community.”

Morrison said he is excited to see this event line up with Algood’s Mingle Market Kickoff. He said he hopes community members come out and enjoy the holiday, along with foods and crafts at city hall.
