Algood has implemented a new ordinance for homeowners with online businesses.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said that before the ordinance, business owners would have to pay a $200 fee and go before the Board of Zoning Appeals to get their business approved.
“And we had a lot of businesses question that, ‘Look I’m a plumber or I’m a singer and I don’t ever do anything from home I just need somewhere to domicile an address,'” Morrison said. “‘So that all of my business is tied to that address, but I don’t do any business at that address.'”
Morrison said that the new ordinance removes the need for businesses to go before the Board of Zoning Appeals if they meet necessary requirements. He said that businesses must be strictly online, and have no business done on-site.
Morrison said that with online businesses becoming more popular, they hope this ordinance will clean up that process.
