Algood Fire Department Respond To Early Morning Structure Fires

The Algood Fire Department responded to multiple structure fires Friday morning on Wall Street.

The department initially received the call at 1:55am. The three buildings were structures outside of residential homes. Algood Fire Chief David Judd said the threat to nearby houses was high.

“When I arrived on scene we had heavy fire involvement of two buildings and one building had, slightly, some slight fire damage, and the fire was moving up toward the residence,” Judd said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown due to the extent of the damage. The structures on fire were a wood shop, a shed and a gazebo. There were no injuries reported.

“A lot of people kind of take for granted the volunteer firefighters and the full-time firefighters,” Judd said. “To wake up at two o’clock in the morning to go from sleeping to working within minutes of each other. It’s very stressful on the body, very stressful on the mental aspect of it.”

The Algood Police Department was the first to respond to the fire. Putnam County EMS was also on the scene.

“EMS, very happy and very pleased and appreciative for them being on scene with us,” Judd said. “They were there for probably an hour making sure if we needed anything we had it. Algood Police Department, they were first on scene. As soon as I got there they met me and gave me a size of the situation of what was going on. In a situation like that, it’s just great when all these different departments and agencies can come together and work cohesively.”

“Throughout our careers, throughout the year we are always constantly training. You never stop training as a firefighter. There is always something more to learn, something new to learn. Luckily the area we live in is very focused on the education of firefighters.”
