Algood Fire Applying for Firehouse Subs Grant

The City of Algood will apply for a Firehouse Subs grant to fund new extrication equipment.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said the fire department currently doesn’t have extrication equipment.

“If we have an extrication, the rescue squad would have to come. So this will require us to do some additional training to be sure we have staff that can operate it,” Morrison said. “But it gives us an additional option if we need it to be able to do some further equipment and stuff with our department.”

Morrison said the $27,069 grant would cover the cost of equipment at no cost to the city.

“So we have asked for that approval. It is a no-match grant. You can apply for them once every couple of years,” Morrison said. “And so our guys are fired up trying to find those grants, and this was just a great opportunity to get some extra equipment.”

Morrison said the department will continue to apply for numerous grants.

“This is something we have looked at in the past, we have tried to bid it out and never got anywhere with it,” Morrison said. “So the fire department has been actively working on grants.”

The Algood City Council approved the grant application Tuesday.
