Algood Considering Creating Parks And Rec Director Position

Creating a Parks and Recreation Director position in Algood is up for a vote at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.

The council will be voting on the first reading of an ordinance to establish a new department head. City Administrator Keith Morrison said that pending the council’s vote, it could begin two weeks after a council vote or July 1.

“Creating a new department head and this would be the Parks and Rec Director, this is a position that I think we’re gonna need,” Morrison said. “As we move into this park and take over the other parks. We’re going to need someone running that department.”

Morrison said the list of responsibilities for parks and recreation are growing in Algood. He said that includes the future 21-acre park, the farmers’ market, rail trail and White Plains Historic Home.

Morrison said to the council during the Monday night work session that the Parks and Recreation Director would report to him.

“I didn’t set a final date for this to take effect,” Morrison said. “So it could take effect 14 days after you vote on it or it could take effect July 1, whichever you’d prefer.”
