Algood is doubling down on local shopping when the first citywide yard sale takes place alongside Algood’s Mingle Market.
Roy Phipps with Parks and Recreation said the yard sale is June 4-5 and the city is simply facilitating the sale. Phipps said the city’s only role with the yard sale is they are waiving permits and encouraging people to visit downtown.
“We thought that maybe traffic to one will help traffic to another,” Phipps said. “So if people were interested in coming to a mingle market, they’d still be able to go. They’d be able to go yard sale-ing and wouldn’t have to do it over two weekends, it would just be all together.”
Phipps said the goal is to turn the citywide yard sale into an annual event. Phipps said the only thing the city is asking residents to do is be mindful of traffic since yard sales lead to more people parking on the street.
The Algood Mingle Market will be June 5.
“Inside the city of Algood you have to get a permit to have a yard sale at your house,” Phipps said. “You only get so many per year, well this won’t go against that count. It’s just a free day to do it and just encouraging everybody to get out that day.”
Phipps said for residents to avoid blocking traffic during the two-day yard sale event across Algood. There are no fees to participate in either the city wide yard sale or Mingle Market.
