The City of Algood will change their Christmas Parade theme after Cookeville’s parade was forced to change for copyright issues.
Algood City Manager Keith Morrison said the city will use ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ in place of their original Grinch theme.
“There was an issue of using no Grinch and Whoville from the Dr. Seuss group,” Morrison said. “We’ve had to change it just to make sure we don’t have any problems with copyright issues.”
The Cookeville Christmas Parade planned on using ‘A Whoville Christmas’ as their theme before Dr. Seuss Enterprises denied the use of their trademarks due to contract restrictions.
Morrison said Algood decided to change their theme after talking with Cookeville’s parade officials.
“It was all tied together. We try to theme ours close to theirs so it makes it easier for our folks to participate in both parades with one float,” Morrison said.
The theme will be the only change to Algood’s parade, Morrison said. The parade is set to take place Friday, Dec. 7 beginning at 6 p.m. at Algood Middle School. The parade will travel through Dry Valley Road onto Main Street before concluding at the Algood Post Office for the Christmas tree lighting.
Those who are interested in participating in the parade can visit Algood City Hall for a registration form.
