Algood Begins Farmer’s Market Project

Prep work has started for the Algood farmer’s market project.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said crews began underground electric work this week.

“We’re going to be digging the underground electric for Upper Cumberland to come put in the line and then we’ll start pouring the foundation and footers for the farmer’s market,” Morrison said. “We’re hoping to have the underground line dug [either] by the end of this week or in the coming weeks, and then get the foundation poured by mid-June.”

Algood City Council delayed the project last year after bids nearly doubled the $75,000 budget. Morrison said the project picked up steam earlier this year when a local contractor offered to build the facility.

“Bryan Henry has offered to help. We’re  going to pay him for materials and he’s going to help get it constructed,” Morrison said. “He sees the benefit to the community and wants to be an integral part of it. We welcome the opportunity to work with him.”

The farmer’s market will be built across from city hall and should be completed by the end of this summer.
