Algood Approves Purchase For Three Police Vehicles

Algood City Council approved the purchase of three new police vehicles, including two cars and one pickup truck.

Chief Dale Armour said the purchase comes as part of the yearly cycle to phase out older vehicles in the fleet. However, he said there have been supply issues for the 2022 vehicles the department budgeted for.

“If we have to go to the 2023 models, there is an upcharge more than what was originally budgeted, about $12,000 difference between them,” Armour said. “For some reason, the Ford pickup truck has really jumped in the price for the 2022-23 model, we’ll probably have to step back on that one if we have to go with the 2023.”

The department budgeted some $107,000. Armour said they often are able to save money being able to trade in the older vehicles, with this year’s trade-ins being 2016 models. He said the department keeps its total fleet at 18 vehicles.

“We have 16 commission officer slots and I try to keep two pool vehicles for breakdowns, wrecks, maintenance issues, things like that,” Armour said. “A lot of times, as you know, not just in law enforcement, but any vehicles now is subject to recall a lot of times it’s sitting on the lot for while as they wait to get the parts in. So we’ve got to have a couple of vehicles to keep the squad division rolling.”
