Algood Appoints Terry New Police Chief

Algood City Council hired Tim Terry as new Police Chief Tuesday night.

Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler made the motion to remove the interim tag and promote Terry. He has worked for the department for almost six years. City Administrator Keith Morrison said Terry has done an exceptional job for the city over the years.

“I think he can handle the job, Chief (Dale) Armour agrees,” Morrison said. “I think this is a positive decision for the department and a positive way for us to move forward and not waste any time, and I have full confidence in Mr. Terry.”

Terry said he is excited for this new opportunity and he hopes to move forward and make things in the city even better. Terry previously served Cookeville for some 35 years.

Armour announced last month he would leave the department to become police chief in Nolensville.

Morrison outlined two options for council to consider, promoting Terry, or considering a search using MTAS as a resource. Morrison recommended Terry.

In other business, council approved the purchase of laptops and computer equipment for the Police Department in the amount of $33,825. Armour said the purchase will help with citations and filing reports faster. The council also awarded a bid for sidewalks and ramps.
