Airport Board Discusses Terminal Expansion

An expansion may be in store for the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport terminal.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said he’s wanting to add a kitchen area and conference room to the facility.

“We’re talking about a 1,500 square foot expansion. It’s not like it’s a major thing,” Selby said. “We could use that conference room to lease out for events or rent out for people who need a meeting space. I think it would be a good move.”

Selby pitched the expansion idea during Tuesday’s board of directors meeting. He said the kitchen area would serve the larger aircraft that visit the airport.

“We really need a kitchen area to be able to do their dishes and to take care of their onboard needs and prepping the aircraft for departure,” Selby said. “It’s just one of those things that gets overlooked sometimes, but it’s a necessary evil of doing business when you’re dealing with this kind of traffic.”

Selby said the airport engineer will research the cost and feasibility of conducting the project. Board members have asked to see those findings before making a decision.
