Putnam’s Audit Comes Back Clean

Putnam County’s annual audit came back with no findings for the fourth time in the past eight years.

County Mayor Randy Porter said the two hundred twenty-seven page report is a testament to the great work of the county’s officials and employees. Porter said the record of clean audits in recent years is amazing for a county the size of Putnam County.

“Kudos to all the elected officials and department heads, everybody that’s, especially the finance folks in each one of those offices,” Porter said. “I think of (Accounts and Budgets Manager Chelsea Qualls) in finance in our office and others in the other offices, they work hard every day to make sure that the accounting and everything is done right.”

The report said the county’s general fund balance was some $33 million at the end of the fiscal year, up some $4.4 million from the year before. The report also showed an increase of some $8.1 million for the county’s net position of governmental activities, which includes capital asset purchases and debt issuances and payments.

Porter said the county has a strong relationship with the state comptroller’s office. The full audit report is available on the county’s website within the “County Commission” page.

“Out of the last ten years when it comes to county general, which is most of the offices and departments other than roads and schools, out of those ten years eight of those we didn’t have any findings,” Porter said.
