Belew Named New Warren Football Coach

Eric Belew named the new head football coach for the Warren County Pioneers.

Belew coached at Armuchee High School in Rome, Georgia, beginning his tenure in 2022. Belew takes over a Warren County football team that finished the season at 0-10.

“Really, the focus is just kind of be where our feet are.” Belew said. “That starts with our players around other sports, you know, we want them to be successful as possible in wrestling and basketball right now and move on the spring sports as well. That’s really what we want to focus on and be where our feet are.”

Belew said everything from tackling in wrestling to running and jumping in such sports as track and basketball can improve a kid’s ability to play football in the long run.

“Being selfless is going to be one of the first things that we try and instill from those guys,” Belew said. “[And also,] you know, not letting my emotions dictate the decisions that we make, you know, that’s always kind of been my slogan as a coach, and not to say that emotions are good or bad, there are good emotions, you know, we want our players to be filled with the joy and the happiness of being out on the football field but you don’t want any type of emotion dictate the decisions we make, you know, on a daily basis…”

Belew returns to Tennessee, where he played football for two years at Tennessee Tech. He also spent years at the University of North Alabama.

“Working your tail off in (other sports), that’s a direct benefit to football.” Belew said. “We’re in a time where people want to specialize and they force kids to play one sport, and I really think that limits a kid’s ability to be successful in that sport.”

Belew said he intends on heading to the campus of Warren County this week, where he plans on meeting with faculty, staff, and his new team for 2025.
