Crossville’s New Sidewalks Halfway Done

Crossville’s downtown sidewalk replacement project is nearly halfway complete and should be finished in June.

City Manager Valerie Hale said the work began at Lantana Road and one side of Main Street is almost done. Hale said the work will then move to the south end of the other side of Main Street and start replacing sidewalk there.

“We expect the sidewalks to, like I mentioned earlier, to improve the aesthetics,” Hale said. “But also to improve and make a positive impact on the area and improve the social and economic landscape of the whole downtown area.”

Hale said the work has been going well outside of some minor delays caused by weather. Hale said the city hopes these improvements will enhance the whole downtown by encouraging more shopping, dining, and walking in the area.

“It’s important because it’s ADA-compliant,” Hale said. “That is the whole goal of the project is to make the sidewalks ADA-compliant as well as enhance the pedestrian accessibility and safety.”

Hale said the project is being done a block or two at a time but each section is unique and takes a different amount of time. Hale said the city is hopeful that the rest of the project will get done without any more issues.

“Each of the businesses are being notified ahead of time,” Hale said. “The project has been broken up into stages and we post those stages on our website so that the individual business owners can look it up and see how far along the project has come and when it’s going to be in their area.”
