White County Rec Complex Getting Wi-Fi

The White County Recreational Complex will be receiving its own wi-fi system for visitors to enjoy.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said that area of the county sits in a dead zone with poor cell service. Robinson said it is important to make sure people can use their phones there because the complex is growing and seeing a lot more use.

“For years I’ve had several parents of children playing ball, playing sports down there saying we have no access,” Robinson said. “If there’s something going on somewhere else, some of them kids are maybe playing here, another one over there, there’s no communication back and forth. So this will allow for that.”

Robinson said he expects the system to be online in the next two to three months. Robinson said having wi-fi will also make the complex much more appealing to tourists coming into the county.

“The more people you can bring into a community, the better off you are,” Robinson said. “And adding stuff like having wi-fi down there and communication hopefully will bring more people in.”

Robinson said the system costs some $70,000 and is completely covered by a grant. Robinson said the county’s contract also included maintenance of the system so the wi-fi will be managed by an external company.

Robinson said the wi-fi will also help the county’s growing disc golf community because many players use a phone application as part of the game.
