The search for White County resident Roy Whited will continue despite no new developments in the case.
Sheriff Steve Page said there have been a couple of hopeful leads in recent months but nothing has been successful. Page said his office is waiting patiently for any more tips or information that it can follow up on.
“It will stay open as long as I’m the sheriff,” Page said. “No, I won’t ever quit looking for Roy. He was a friend of mine and he’s a good citizen in this county. All the citizens in this county, period, have that same benefit with me. If something happens, I don’t give up. I just keep trying to figure out what happened with this person.”
Page said his department has maintained communication with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the district attorney’s office for assistance with the search. Page said there are no leading theories as to what happened with Whited or why he disappeared.
“We’re grasping for straws,” Page said. “We’re doing anything we possibly can to figure out what happened to him and try to bring justice to the case.”
Page said the case could get resolved in the future similar to the Foster and Bechtel case where the remains of two missing teens were found after being missing for twenty-one years.
“I put it in God’s hands,” Page said. “It’s in His time and we get something to go on, hopefully that’s a positive lead. Maybe we can locate and find Roy Whited, hopefully still alive and hopefully healthy and we can let everybody know what’s happened.”
Page said anyone who knows anything about Whited’s whereabouts should reach out to his office at (931) 836-2700.
“One of the examples was somebody thought they’d seen him in another county and we went and looked into that and it was not Roy,” Page said. “That’s just what we do to keep it going, we keep looking and following leads and hoping we find something and that’s all we do.”
