TVA will conduct scheduled power outages for maintenance in Gainesboro this Saturday.
UCEMC Director of Operations Joe Skelton said the maintenance will consist of replacing transmission lines after structural issues were discovered. Areas impacted include Big Bottom Rd, Indian Creek, Celina Hwy, State Route 85, parts of Granville Highway and Seven Knobs Road. Skelton said the scheduled outage will start at 11pm and will last six hours.
“We do try to do it in those times when it would impact our members the least,” Skelton said. “Our goal is to be working during the night while they are asleep and when they wake up in the morning they wake up to that same dependable power that they’ve had but also they wake up to a stronger grid.”
Skelton said it’s unfortunate that power will have to be turned off but the maintenance is needed. Skelton said an inconvenient short outage at midnight is well worth it to maintain and supply power when customers need it the most.
“The goal of TVA and the goal of UCEMC is to get ahead of that and change these structures out,” Skelton said. “And to do a good maintenance program that helps us to supply reliable and safe power.”
Skelton said the structures that will be worked on are fairly remote and off the road so there will be no road closures. Skelton said if the maintenance was put off until a storm happened it would take much longer to restore power for those areas.
“If this maintenance was not done and it was just left alone you run the risk of these structures falling in the most inopportune time,” Skelton. “Then they are so far off the road and rough in remote areas it could take days to get to them. The work that we are doing now is going to mitigate those long-extended outages that could occur.”
There will also be a scheduled outage for Algood on November 2nd. The maintenance will be scheduled at 11pm. Areas of Algood set to be impacted include Brotherton Mountain, The Overlook, Falling Water Rd, Canada Flatt, Macedonia, Paragon, White Plains, Shenandoah, Stone Hinge, Pennical View, Plantation View, Rockey Point, Part of Shady Lane, Victory View, Rolling Hills, Twin Creeks, Hyder Mountain, Lake Point, Poplar Grove, Mt. Pleasant, and Mountain Top Lane.
