CRMC Volunteers Now Wearing Blue

Volunteers at Cookeville Regional Medical Center now have a new look, as they are now wearing blue vests.

Volunteer Service Coordinator Cyndi Maxwell said volunteers had been wearing Pink and Red vests since 1972. Maxwell said the volunteers were the ones who brought the idea to change the color of the vest.

“They had asked for thoughts for different colors to be more uniformed cause some were pink and of course the men wore red and we’ve added more men to our volunteer program which is great,” Maxwell said. “So we just decided to go with something a little more uniform and so that’s when we chose the royal blue color.”

Maxwell said the hospital has about 64 volunteers who help with various tasks around the hospital. Maxwell said the blue vest will help visitors to identify volunteers more easily.

“It’ll be easy for them to be identified you know to both staff and visitors,” Maxwell said. “Of course, they are logoed on the vest that says they are a volunteer.”

Maxwell said the volunteers play a huge role in helping patients and families navigate the hospital.

“It can be overwhelming you know coming into any large area, especially the hospital, and not knowing your way around,” Maxwell said. “So having a volunteer kind of as a way finder at both the east entrance and main entrance makes it less intimidating.”

Maxwell said volunteers can also answer any questions that patients may have. Maxwell said the hospital is always in need of more volunteers. Maxwell said for those interested in volunteering to call Volunteer Service at (931) 783-2740.
