Wildcats Ready For Playoff Run

Friday’s matchup with Trousdale County, an important matchup for Monterey’s playoff hopes, according to Head Coach Scott Hughes.

The 4-3 Wildcats are on a two-game win streak and in that stretch have outscored their opponents 56-0. Following their bye week and while still being on fall break, Hughes said they started preparation for the Yellow Jackets a day early.

“We came back in on Sunday night and got an extra night to kind of get back together,” Hughes said. “I don’t want to use the word reunion, but you kind of come back together after seven or eight days. To get back together and kind of start the preparation for the next week.”

While Trousdale County stands 1-6, Hughes said there is more than just wins and losses. He said they are playing a lot of underclassmen that have shown growth with each passing week.

“You know, I really like their effort,” Hughes said. “I think if you watch the way they get off the football, they’re very aggressive off the football. I like the way their skill guys operate, they put you in a bind with just bodies. They try to overload you on both sides of the football.”

Ahead of the game, Hughes said he is trying to make his players understand what comes with a trip to Hartsville. He said Trousdale County should not be overlooked due to this year’s record.

“It’s a legendary place that has just so much rich football history,” Hughes said. “And so, not only are you playing the team there now, but you’re playing all the history and all the mystique that that location has and that’s hard to overcome sometimes.”

Kick-off this Friday in Hartsville at 7pm.
