Golf Fundraiser For UC Patients In Need

For the 22nd year, the Cookeville Regional Medical Center Foundation is putting on its annual golf tournament fundraiser at the Golden Eagle Golf Club August 15 and 16.

The tournament will have morning flights and afternoon flights both days to accommodate the tournament’s growing size. Executive director of the CRMC Foundation, John Bell said that in his 11 years with the foundation, the tournament is two days of fun for a good cause.

“It’s unique because it helps residents locally, all across the Upper Cumberland,” Bell said. “So, you can impact the life of a cancer patient or stroke victim or a child who’s dealing with developmental delays. You can help all those folks just by playing golf. So, it’s a fun, wonderful way to get involved and have some fun and know you’re helping a lot of people right here in our community.”

Each flight will hold 20-25 teams of four golfers, the event can range from 300 to 400 golfers. Bell said this year’s tournament will feature a flat fee registration when you sign up, and the on-course “extras” will be free.

“If you want a mulligan, it’s included, all the course games are included,” Bell said. “The golf ball launcher, the putting contest, the closest to the pin, all that stuff is included in the registration form this year.”

That fee will also include food, drink, snacks, tournament gifts and the tournament t-shirt. Bell said that the tournament features groups that take golfing seriosuly and are out there to win, but for the most part it is all about having fun.

“You don’t have to be a pro to play in this tournament, in fact most folks who are playing in it are not,” Bell said. “So, we encourage folks to come out and just enjoy the day and know that your registration fee is going to help patients right here in the Upper Cumberland who are struggling.”
