White County Board To Continue Touring

When the White County School Board holds it first meeting of the new school year Thursday, they will continue to meet at a different school.

Chairperson Bob Young said they had considered cancelling the practice due to concerns about the burden these after-hours meetings placed on schools. Young said it is a positive experience for the board because it ensures that every single school gets attention.

“From the staff, the administration at each school I think it’s, while it is more effort on their part to host us, I think they do take pride in showing off their facility and the hard work that they’re doing when we’re there,” Young said.

Young said the visits became even more difficult after the technology team started live streaming meetings. Young said staffers have to bring all of the equipment from the central office each time. Young said they will look into ways to change how the meetings are conducted to make it easier for school staff when it is their turn to host the board.

“We’re going to continue back with that rotation, continue to live stream, and so that way the public can have opportunities to view our meetings,” Young said. “And hopefully we can do that in a way and figure out a way to streamline some things where it’s not so much of a burden on the school administrators, their staff, or the technology team.”

Young said the visits give them an opportunity to meet with employees at every level of the district, such as support and custodial staff.

“They do a great job of just making our district one that’s envied by a lot of counties in the state for the resources that we have and what we do with them,” Young said.

Young said these annual school visits are a long-standing practice that the board looks forward to each year. The board is scheduled to visit each school once.
